Holiday Entitlement Calculator

Calculate annual leave for full-time and part-time employees, including mid-year starters.

Use our free holiday entitlement calculator to quickly work out statutory annual leave for UK employees. It supports part-time working patterns, mid-year joiners and leavers, and employers who offer more than the statutory minimum.

How the Calculator Works

You enter employee working patterns, start dates, leave dates and annual entitlement (if higher than statutory), and it takes care of the maths for you. The calculator automatically handles:

  • Statutory 5.6-week leave - but you can increase this if needed
  • Pro-rata calculations for part-timers, and mid-year starters and leavers
  • Bank holidays included, so your part-timers get their fair share

It’s ideal for small businesses, HR teams and payroll administrators who need accurate, compliant calculations.

UK Holiday Entitlement Explained

  • Statutory entitlement is 5.6 weeks (28 days for a 5-day week)
  • Employers may offer additional paid leave beyond statutory
  • Part-time employees receive leave in proportion to the days they work
  • Bank holidays form part of the total annual leave entitlement
  • Holiday for part-year employment is prorated according to time worked

FAQs

How do I calculate pro-rata holiday for part-time employees?
Take the full-time entitlement (e.g. 28 days) and multiply by the fraction of the week worked. Example: 3 days a week = 3/5 × 28 = 16.8 days.

Can I round the calculation?
You can round the figure up, but not down. For example, 16.8 days rounds up to 17 days.

How is holiday entitlement calculated for mid-year starters?
The calculator prorates the entitlement based on the start date and leave date you enter.

Can I enter an entitlement higher than the statutory 5.6 weeks?
Yes. By default, the calculator works on 28 days for a full-time employee (5.6 weeks), but it lets you increase the annual entitlement to include any enhanced leave you provide.

Does the calculator include bank holidays?
Yes. Public holidays (bank holidays) are treated as part of the total days’ entitlement in line with UK statutory guidance.

This calculator is part of The Holiday Tracker, a UK absence-management system used by hundreds of employers to manage their employees annual leave.
